Leading SITs through Cycles of Continuous Improvement PL Series
Dear Administrator,
Of the several functions of a School Improvement Team (SIT), perhaps none is more critical than using data to create a robust School Improvement Plan (SIP). With the shift in responsibilities and roles outline in the Education Accountability Act, SITs will be taking a more prominent role in the creation and monitoring of SIPs. This series will help Principals facilitate SIT meetings through examining school-level data to identify needs and root-causes, set building-level goals that effectively drive improvement, select aligned strategies and track the quality of implementation. The series will take place in a variety of modalities over the next several months. At the close of the series, Principals will have the tools and support to have a completed SIP that meets the requirements outlined in the legislation.
When:
October 28, 2021 Virtual 3:00pm-4:30pm
November 17, 2021 Virtual 3:00pm-4:00pm
After the first two sessions there will be two options to continue the series.
1. Virtual track with a condensed timeline. 2. Hybrid track with extended time.
In addition there will be resources available and district support as needed.
Who Should Attend: Principal or SIT Facilitator.
Where: Virtual (Zoom). The hybrid track will have in person opportunities (TBD).
Session 1A: Examining Data & Identifying Needs. Principals or their designee will be provided with a SIP template and training on a protocol for identifying needs based on their accountability data. Protocols are designed to be used with their SITs.
Session 1B: Prioritizing Needs. Once principals have conducted the Examining Data Protocol from Session 1A, they will learn a new protocol designed to support SIT members in priori/zing the top 3-5 needs out of those identified.
Session 2: Conducting Root-Cause Analyses. In the first half of the session, Principals and SITs will learn a protocol to conduct a root cause analysis and in the second half of the session, apply this protocol to one or two of their high-priority needs identified in Session 1B.
Session 3A: Setting Smart Goals. Based on priortized needs and their root causes, Principals and SITs will learn to establish high-quality, student outcome goals to drive their continuous improvement efforts.
Session 3B: Identifying & Implementing Improvement Strategies. In this session, Principals and SITs will consider the alignment of improvement strategies to their needs, root-causes, and goals, as well as to their LEA strategic plans and the state-wide strategic plan. They will also consider implementation milestones and leading indicators that will help drive progress monitoring.
Session 4: Monitoring the Plan. Principals will have a chance to consider monitoring routines that drive improvement and course-corrections to their SIPs
